Carbon fiber brake disc preforms serve as the precursor for manufacturing carbon-ceramic brake discs. They are produced by needling long-fiber carbon fiber and web into non-woven composite fabric, which is then cross-layered at different angles. Needles with reverse hooks introduce fiber bundles in the thickness direction (Z-direction), forming a quasi-three-dimensional structure with specific strength and porosity.

Carbon-ceramic brake discs use carbon fiber brake disc preforms as the reinforcement phase. Pyrolytic carbon is deposited into the preform via chemical vapor deposition (CVI) to form a porous matrix, followed by liquid silicon infiltration (LSI) to create C/C-SiC composite brake discs.
